Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria has emerged winner of the highly competitive race for the office of the director-general of the World Trade Organisation.
Congratulations to the new and first ever African DG of WTO.
Okonjo-Iweala who was once Nigeria's Minister of Finance and also World Bank's Managing Director, Operations (2007–2011).
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was chosen as the final candidate for the role of DG WTO has she polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her South Korea's Trade Minister counterpart at the final stage of the race.

The official announcement is expected to be made by the WTO at 2pm GMT which is equivalent to 3pm Nigerian time.
